Meeting with Dr Matt CockerillThe IGMM postdoctoral society, PODS, held another successful meeting on 7 February. Dr Matt Cockerill, from the open-access publisher BioMedCentral, gave an informal and interesting talk about the future of science publishing. He discussed the problems inherent in the traditional publishing model, and explained why open access is the future of scientific publishing. He also discussed the hot topic of metrics, i.e. how a journal (and article's) impact can be measured. After his talk, Matt also stayed to enjoy the hospitality on offer, and there was a lively discussion about the issues he had raised.
