The main PhD project starts in September. The mini-projects give students a chance to experience life in different labs and Centres, and helps inform the final choice of a PhD project. Although students are given a booklet of PhD projects to choose from, they also have the chance to develop their own project ideas in conjunction with prospective supervisors; these have to be collaborative.
An attractive stipend is offered and a comprehensive transferable skills training programme is also incorporated. PLEASE NOTE that there are eligibility criteria for these studentships relating to nationality, and period and purpose of residency in the UK. Details can be found at the MRC Human Genetics Unit website.

IGMM's priorities - from basic through to clinical research across five major scientific themes - allow us to offer an exciting 4-year studentship programme which is collaborative across the Institute's partner organisations.
The 4-year postgraduate programme consists of an MSc by Research in the first year, followed by a 3-year PhD project.
The MSc is made up of three modules, each of which has a taught component based largely on sessions that follow a journal club format, and a mini-project component which involves a 10 week project that is written up and assessed.
The last module finishes in June, and the following two months are spent writing a PhD project proposal which forms part of the assessment for the MSc.
